Great news breaking that Apple has approved the Spotify iPhone app. From the first moment I heard about the app I always thought that this would be the tipping point for Spotify’s Premium service. I know that I’ll be upgrading…
As the value of recorded music continues to fall artists continue to innovate and find amazing new ways to package and distribute their music. Going beyond the tried and test box set route, Moldover has come up with this rather cool circuit board packaging. It even plays sound and acts as a Theremin using integrated light-sensors. I don’t even know what the music’s like but I still want one Wanna see more stuff like this built at one of the upcoming Music Hack Days (details of which are coming soon).
We had another excellent session at OpenMusicMedia last night talking about Music As Culture and how we should be preserving music that is being lost due to their being know commercial incentive to digitize/archive/release it.
After a quiet start the conversation really heated up with @dubber leading the charge, at one point introducing his argument for a renewable 5 year copyright law as opposed to the current 70 year term. Head over to his Deleting Music blog for more riffs on the same theme - http://www.deletingmusic.com/
And click on the flickr.com link above to check out some nice photos from the OpenMusicMedia Flickr group.
Cool video of Toyo making a full track using only iPhone apps made by his company Amidio (which includes the excellent noise.io) within the last year. I’m excited by the prospects of what could be made in the next 12 months.
Wow, this is absolute genius! I’m not even sure how to begin describing how brilliant the Cybraphon is. Watch the above video and then head on over to Cybraphon.com to soak up the full amazingness of this project - how it was built, why it was built, the process - all documented beautifully.
Live coding is a new direction in electronic music and video, and is starting to get somewhere interesting. Live coders expose and rewire the innards of software while it generates improvised music and/or visuals. All code manipulation is projected for your pleasure.
Thinking about going to the Toplap, PubCode2 event. Looks really interesting. The whole concept in the video above really reminded me of a quote I recently used from The Guardian’s Matt McAlister (for a Music Hack Day press release) about ‘code being art’.
